John Mendes, EdD
John Mendes is a full-time instructor in the College of Education at the University of Arizona Global Campus. Dr. Mendes graduated with his BA in educational foundations from Northeastern Illinois University and earned his MA in special education from Roosevelt University. Working as a (special) educator and advocate, he experienced the need for assistive technology in the field. Dr. Mendes also pursued his master’s degree in educational technology from the University of Missouri-Columbia and focused on implementing augmentative devices and assistive technology for special needs populations. From there, he earned his doctorate in educational leadership from Argosy University-Chicago and currently is doing some post-doctoral work through Vanderbilt University. Dr. Mendes has worked in the field of special education for the last 15 years and has a wealth of experience implementing differentiated instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs. For the last eight years, he has worked in higher education as a course instructor and dissertation faculty chair. Born and raised in Chicago, he currently resides in northern Illinois with his wife and five children and enjoys spending time with his family, reading, playing and watching sports, and spending time outdoors (as much as the Midwest will allow).
