Biography
Dr. Rhonda Idris is a Professor in the BA in Early Childhood Education Program at the University of Arizona Global Campus (UAGC). Through a highly competitive selection process, she started her career in education as a Teach For America Corps member in Washington, DC. She has taught mathematics and science in urban schools in 4th to 8th grade during her time as a K-12 teacher. She was a Founding Math Teacher of a newly developed middle school in Washington, DC. and assisted in the development of the math department. Dr. Idris transitioned to leadership roles to follow her passion for building teacher self-efficacy. She was an instructional coach, traveling to schools across the country to improve instructional practice in early math literacy. She developed and facilitated professional development workshops for teachers and was ecstatic to work with teachers to bring joy to classrooms. She also taught courses to teachers in preparation for renewing or obtaining their teacher certification. During her time in education, she managed end to end hiring teachers, developed credential courses, and managed a team of specialists to write interdisciplinary project-based learning curriculum in Washington, DC.
Dr. Idris currently resides in Prince George’s County, Maryland with her husband and three kiddos. She is typically consumed with teaching and helping her kids pursue their dreams. She loves to sit and read a good book, binge watch mind-melting shows, visit family and friends, and sneak in a chocolate treat whenever possible. She feels most content when she can bring her family to take a dip in the Caribbean Sea on the island of Jamaica, where she was born and considers home.
