Biography
Dr. Michelle “Mo” Otstot serves as an Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education in the Division of Education Professions at the University of Arizona Global Campus. She earned her Doctor of Education in Leadership and Innovation from Arizona State University, a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Northern Arizona University, a Master of Arts in Early Childhood Education–Montessori from Ottawa University, a Master of Education in Special Education from Arizona State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Special Education from the University of Arizona.
Dr. Otstot began her career as a special education and Montessori preschool teacher and continues to hold licenses in administration, elementary education, early childhood, gifted education, Montessori, and special education. She received the Arizona School Administrators Outstanding Dissertation Award for her innovative work with instructional technology.
With 26 years of PreK–12 experience, she has served as a teacher, principal, director of special education, and director of human resources. She transitioned to higher education in 2015, initially as a Senior Adjunct Professor at Grand Canyon University, teaching across associate through master’s level programs.
Dr. Otstot’s research focuses on innovation in virtual learning environments and the preparation of early childhood educators.
Her guiding quote, “No mud, no lotus,” reflects her belief that challenge, struggle, and perseverance are essential parts of growth. This philosophy shapes her commitment to fostering a culture of care in higher education where students feel supported through both success and difficulty. She champions learning environments built on compassion, resilience, and belonging, recognizing that the most meaningful transformations often bloom from the messiest moments.
