Biography

Dr. Denise Maxwell serves as a Professor for the MA in Education program in the Department of Education and Liberal Arts at the University of Arizona Global Campus. She earned her EdD in Educational Leadership from the University of Phoenix, an MA in Educational Leadership from the University of Northern Colorado, an MA in Education and Educational Psychology from Ball State University, and a BS in Special Education and Elementary Education from Central Oklahoma State University.

Her professional experiences include classroom teacher, special education teacher, professional developer, mentor, administrator, principal, educational consultant, Assistant Professor, and Associate Dean. Her passion for online learning and instruction served as the motivation for joining University of Arizona Global Campus. “Online learning provides an availability of degree programs and access to learning that aligns with the lives of professionals,” she says. “My belief is the online classroom and interactions between students in this format represent the future for K-12 education and higher education. Being part of this learning format and working directly with other colleagues and students is an exciting and rewarding process.”

As a lifelong learner and educator, Dr. Maxwell especially enjoys the online interaction as students share what they gained from another peer or class interaction and how that process changed their behavior, provided new insight, or increased confidence in their own skills. Denise has a passion for teacher preparation and leadership development. She takes tremendous pride in the role she has had in the development of principals, educators, and students during her career. Denise also enjoys creating and providing professional development for instructors. A guiding principle that has directed Denise during her career is that the leader serves as a coach to empower others to be successful. Building the capacity of teachers and educational leaders is a mission for Denise in her role as a Lead Faculty member. Although Dr. Maxwell has lived all over the world due to being part of military families, first as a daughter and then a wife, she currently lives in Denver, CO. She has two adult daughters and a grandson who bring much joy into her life.
