Culture of Care Summit - Day 1

Providing a Trauma-Informed/Responsive Environment

Care and Working in Teams for Success
Return to CoC Summit

This session translates the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA’s) "Concept of Trauma and Guidance for a Trauma-Informed Approach" into essential trauma-informed/trauma-responsive practices. Individuals who have experienced trauma are susceptible to being impacted by unexpected events, statements, and/or sensory inputs that trigger unwanted trauma reactions. A Culture of Care is empathetic, and all are knowledgeable about the core components of trauma and responding to trauma. Participants will be able to describe SAMHSA’s four key assumptions and six principles of a trauma-informed and will be able to implement practices, both internally and externally, to create a trauma informed/trauma-responsive environment.
