MAT 222 Intermediate Algebra

3 Credits

In this course, students will explore a wide range of Algebra topics. Topics will include study of linear equations, linear relationships, slope, polynomials, and functions, including graphing relations and solving systems of equations. Emphasis will be placed on developing an awareness of historical and current uses of algebra in real life settings, in various careers, and in solving important societal problems.

EDU 371 Phonics-Based Reading & Decoding

3 Credits

This course provides an overview of research-based concepts and instructional practices for teaching children how to read following the Science of Reading. In addition, the course will review assessments for evaluating the performance of developing readers, including phonemic awareness, letter-sound identification, word reading, and fluency. This course will also cover early literacy principles and the stages and components of early literacy development. Finally, the course will help students draw connections between oral language, phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, phonics, and fluent reading. Prerequisite: EDU 372.

EDU 367 Elementary & Secondary School Media

3 Credits

This class will explore the role of the teacher librarian and role of the library media center at three different levels of education (elementary, middle, and high school). Students will research programs, library practices, teaching styles and management in the facilitation of a library media center.

BUS 311 Business Law I

3 Credits

Introduction to the legal environment of business in the United States. Examination of the Constitution, administrative law, contracts, agency, and the protection of competition, consumers, employees, investors, the environment, and international trade.

MGT 435 Organizational Change

3 Credits

In this course, students will study and apply alternative theories, models and strategies for creating and managing organizational change. The effectiveness of management tools in initiating problem solving and decision making to bring about change within organizations is evaluated.

EDU 365 Politics of American Education

3 Credits

The political dimensions of policy formation/implementation in education and the use of power to influence educational policy will be explored. Conflict resolution and the analysis of consequences and impact will be examined.

HSM 497 Homeland Security & Emergency Management Capstone

3 Credits

In this final course students will demonstrate their mastery of program outcomes in Homeland Security & Emergency Management creating an original research and analysis report using the draft and research developed in the Research and Analysis Course. Prerequisite: Successful completion of the General Education Capstone course.

HSM 438 Introduction to Cyber Crime

3 Credits

This course focuses on the technical aspects of digital crime as well as behavioral aspects of computer hackers, virus writers, terrorists and other offenders. Using real life examples and case studies, students will examine the history, development, extent and types of digital crime and digital terrorism as well as current legislation and law enforcement practices designed to prevent, investigate and prosecute these crimes.

MGT 425 Leadership & Motivation

3 Credits

Leadership plays a crucial role in motivating employees to perform at their best and achieve their goals. Effective leaders understand the needs, desires, and strengths of their employees and create a work environment that fosters and sustains motivation for the purposes of increased engagement and productivity. This course examines how leaders can motivate employees in various ways while creating a positive work culture. The concepts of creating a compelling vision, demonstrating passion, and leading by example are explored through motivational contexts and processes. Prerequisite: BUS 119 for the BA Business Leadership Program.

EDU 362 Adult Learning & Instruction

3 Credits

Students will learn about the various theories and practices associated with adult learning, how learning may be designed and implemented for adult learners, as well as how learning as an adult differs from younger learners. Various modalities for instruction will be examined including e-learning, accelerated courses, and training sessions.
