The University of Arizona Global Campus (UAGC) recognizes military experience beyond the paper records. Of course, those who have served in the military may be eligible to receive credit for their experience, and those who are interested should ask an advisor about how they may be able to turn their real-world experience into college credits. The University also offers grants, including the Liberty Grant and the Patriot Grant, which are available to qualifying active-duty military and Veterans, respectively, as additional means of financial support.

But at UAGC, we also support them with specialized resources and services that validate active-duty military members, Veterans, and their families in their academic careers from start to finish.

The military population at UAGC is robust, where students with a military association make up 26% of the population, a number that equaled roughly 8,000 students for the 2023-2024 enrollment year. According to the GI Bill Comparison Tool, 3,833 members and their families are also using their GI Bill benefits at UAGC. And we’re here to support each and every one.

The following outlets are designed to assist and recognize our military-affiliated students pursuing higher education before, during, and after deployment.

Military Support Team

At UAGC, we support our military members from enrollment to graduation day. Our dedicated Military Support Team is ready to provide the information and resources specific to the experience of a military-affiliated students. Our team includes:

  • Military Alliance Managers: They serve as a liaison between current and potential students and enrollment advisors and often are one of the first points of contact for degree-seeking active-duty military, and Veterans.
  • Military Services Enrollment Advisors: An Enrollment Services Advisor (ESA) serves as a resource for answering questions, offering advice, and guiding military-affiliated students.
  • Military Academic Advisors: Once the ESA has completed their responsibilities, a Military Academic Advisor takes over to assist with accessing university services, additional funding, and course navigation.
  • Military Admissions and Matriculation Coordinators: Also called MAMCs, these professionals are responsible for processing transcripts and admissions paperwork, along with performing evaluations at various stages of enrollment.
  • Military Registrar Support Representatives: This group manages the military matriculation specialists (MMS) who ensure that each student’s records are up-to-date, and that their degree track is transparent.
  • Military Student Advocates: This counseling position helps students in need of additional accommodations for academic and disability support.
  • Military/Veteran Financial Services: A Financial Services Advisor (FSA) is the accounting and finance resource of the academic process, helping with payment and loan aspects alongside other matters dealing with tuition and costs.
  • Support and counseling: From hardships of service or PTSD mental health challenges, we understand that the military population deals with things specific stresses that the civilian population of civilian students might not have to navigate the stress of. To assist, the UAGC student support center offers individual counseling, peer support groups, and stress management resources to our military student population.

More Internal Resources

When a student becomes a member of the UAGC community, they have immediate access to an abundance of resources throughout their academic careers. Many of these resources have specific programs, tracks, or services specifically designed for our military-affiliated students. Read on to learn more about how we support and recognize those who serve.

Career Services

UAGC students have access to Career Services for life, even after they graduate. During schooling, a wealth of online resources are available to alumni through the student portal, like the Military Career Pathways that track student progress as coursework is completed. On the evergreen side, the Military Career Track modules help with various stages of civilian transitioning. Active-duty military and Veterans have an opportunity to take advantage of resume writing assistance, interview preparation, and even a unique military track.

Alumni Association

As an extension, the Alumni Association connects alumni with other likeminded individuals with similar backgrounds, so our military-affiliated students will have an opportunity to network with other Wildcats like them.

CHAMPS Peer Mentoring

Military members can benefit from having a knowledgeable resource as they navigate through the higher education experience, and the UAGC CHAMPS Peer Mentoring Program has programs tailored specifically for military-affiliated students. Students who take advantage of this hands-on mentoring program gain access to a milestone program that offers materials, a strong support system, and further opportunities to find success within the UAGC community.

National Honor Society

As the first-ever student honor society that caters to military and student Veterans, the Service, Academics, Leadership, Unity, Tribute, and Excellence (SALUTE) Veterans National Honor Society is open by invitation. Membership can include privileges like scholarship opportunities, provided that the student maintains the right qualifications. This is an organization that’s available to both undergraduate and graduate students, and membership requirements include a 3.0 GPA, at least 12 completed credits of undergraduate coursework, current enrollment as a student, and other mandatory criteria

Social media

Another way to stay connected to past and current students is through different UAGC social channels, including the University of Arizona Global Campus Military & Veteran Facebook group, which is a dedicated community that offers resources, support, and advice for others.

Student Veterans of America

The Student Veterans of America is a national organization that provides networking opportunities and advocacy for veteran benefits, and UAGC has its own student chapter. The SVA keeps students updated with newsletters and social media posts regarding opportunities and benefits available to them. Our own local student chapter was developed in 2024 and is growing rapidly, with over 800 members and counting.

Commencement

During each commencement ceremony, there is a mention of military service in the programs, and the distinction of military-connected graduates in the official proceedings. The University also includes a veteran recognition, where UAGC again recognizes the military and Veteran student populations. Also during each in-person spring commencement ceremony weekend celebration, military and Veteran graduates, along with their families, are invited to a special recognition reception.

Recognizing A Strong Military Student Body

At UAGC, we are proud to offer these services — and many others — to both active and retired military members and their families. By taking advantage of the ever-growing network of students and troops across the world, servicemembers and their families are creating a healthy, well-rounded community through their college educations.
