Biography

Ashford University* student Jason Albert embodies the concept of growth. In August 2017, 47-year-old Albert entered Ashford University’s MBA program with approximately thirty years of business sales and management experience under his belt. At that stage in his career, the Oconomowoc, WI resident held a BBA in Marketing from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater and was already a results-driven performer.

Albert’s experiences and accolades stimulated further ambition to enhance his knowledge. Choosing to pursue his Master of Business Administration with a specialization in Organizational Leadership, Albert “wanted to learn more about business and polish my skills for future advancement opportunities.” His ultimate goal: “I would like to be president of a company before I retire.” His choice to attend Ashford University was in part because “it was a reputable university, and also because tuition fees were covered by my employer's tuition reimbursement and the Ashford Full Tuition Grant program.”

Albert was also motivated by the prospect of setting an example for his family and colleagues. “I have three kids that I hope to inspire by going back to school as an adult and completing the MBA. I also hope to inspire coworkers to follow their dreams and go back to school and earn a degree.”

On track to graduate in January 2019, Albert is delighted with the quality of education he has experienced thus far, as well as its potential for application. “The concepts and theory taught in the classes will support my decision-making now and in the future.” He lists BUS 620 Managerial Marketing with Dr. Patricia Ryan as his favorite class and teacher. “Dr. Ryan encouraged the students to dig deeper on discussion posts with her questions and provided positive feedback.”

Albert has also taken advantage of the range of beneficial resources provided at Ashford. “The professors, help desk, and additional support staff supported every question I asked. Career Services provided support in reviewing my resume and LinkedIn profile. The Library was a resource utilized for many discussion posts and for all assignments.” He particularly enjoyed Ashford’s online learning environment, noting that the courses “were actually more efficient, as I travel for work. It allowed me to study at my own pace and manage my time.”

Albert’s commitment to professional growth through higher education has paid off in both specific and comprehensive ways. “I believe I am a better writer, and I understand more about business in general. The classes are challenging, but if you put in the time, the rewards should be plentiful. If you are dedicated to yourself and committed to putting in the work, you will do well at Ashford University.”
