Biography
Dr. Adrianne Hanson is an Associate Professor and the Program Chair for the Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts at the University of Arizona Global Campus. She also oversees the four Liberal Arts Emphasis Areas: English, History, Strategic Communication, and Political Science & Government. Dr. Hanson joined the university in 2013, and has served the institution in a variety of roles, including as English faculty, Program Chair for the Applied Linguistics Program, and Program Chair for the English Program. Prior to her work at UAGC, Dr. Hanson served as Chair of the MA Program in Business Communication at Jones International University, and as faculty at Colorado Community Colleges Online, Buena Vista University, New York University, and Ivy Tech Community College. She also spent five years as an academic advisor for undergraduates in the College of Liberal Arts at Purdue University. She received her Ph.D. in English from New York University, specializing in nineteenth-century British literature and the English Renaissance. She earned a MSc in Comparative Literature, and a MSc in Scottish Literature from the University of Edinburgh, and a BA in English from Barnard College, Columbia University. At UAGC, Dr. Hanson teaches courses in Liberal Arts (general humanities), Art Appreciation, British Literature, International/World Literature, and the Liberal Arts Capstone. Her recent conference presentations have focused on two different areas of teaching and learning: the teaching of metacognitive learning skills for greater student retention and learning achievement in the online environment, and the integration of competency-based models and ePortfolio development in the Liberal Arts.
