Tiana Sims is a survivor. Her grit and determination are hard to rival, and if she has it her way, she’ll use her education and her voice to be a changemaker in the legal system.
 
Knowing where Tiana is in her life today — a mom of three happy, healthy boys; a military spouse; and a college graduate on her way to another degree at the University of Arizona Global Campus (UAGC) — it might surprise you to know the challenges she’s overcome. Few would have predicted her present, knowing her past. 

Sometimes in life, finding your independence is something you have to work for. Through trials, tribulations, and all of life’s tests, that’s exactly what Shiloh Wagner did. She worked toward something she could call her own. 

Having already earned her bachelor’s degree and working now toward her master’s degree at the University of Arizona Global Campus (UAGC), she’s not taking any of it for granted because she has certainly worked for it. 

Whether you’re a LatinX student or alum at the University of Arizona Global Campus (UAGC) looking to connect with others of Latin American descent or you appreciate the culture and are looking for a way to support peers in the LatinX community, the LatinX Club should get you excited.

With more than 12 years of online teaching experience behind her at the University of Arizona Global Campus (UAGC), Leah Westerman is a veteran professor who also mentors fellow UAGC instructors. She has mastered the art of instructing via the always-evolving platforms, and she has what it takes to ensure her students succeed in her classes. Plus, she has unique work experience that adds to her varied expertise. 

Kevin Daley is a firm believer in the law of attraction. 

Since a young age, he trusted that if he thought about something he wanted to do and focused on it hard enough, he would achieve his goal. 

“When I was 5 years old, I wanted to go to the U.S. and get paid to play basketball,” says Kevin, who was born in Panama City but later emigrated to America with his father and two brothers. “I had no idea how I was going to accomplish that goal, but I set that goal anyway.”

This life philosophy appears to have worked. 

“Family” isn’t a word that Kenneth Ferguson takes lightly. 

Born and raised in Northern California, Kenneth spent his young life in the foster care system and group homes, and he can tell you exactly how much time it was. 

“I did 18 years and nine months,” he states. “That’s 6,974 days that I was in foster care. That’s a long time to battle and to go through a lot of different emotions and feelings.”

According to Kenneth, perseverance and preservation of self mean more when you grow up in environments like he did. 

For more than five years, Dr. Charles Minnick served as director of admissions for a chain of cosmetology schools. It was his first role in higher education, with an office located just outside of the classroom. By virtue of proximity, he sat through “perm class” at least 30 times.

It’s time to celebrate the University of Arizona Global Campus Fall Class of 2021. 

While we won’t be able to honor our 6,343* graduates in person, we will be honoring all of our fall graduates in a special virtual commencement on October 10, 2021.
