The Concept of Organizational Management

Behind every successful organization is a solid strategy that has paved the way for its achievements. This roadmap to success is composed of analysis, meetings, objectives, and sometimes years of planning. However, strategic organizational management is the driving force behind why some companies are able to achieve much higher levels of success.

The Master of Arts in Organizational Management at the University of Arizona Global Campus explores what it takes to become an effective leader while also educating you on the process of effective organizational management.

What is Strategic Management?

The steps and framework of an organizational management strategy vary from business to business, but the idea behind it remains the same. An article from the Balanced Scorecard Institute states that strategic management is the comprehensive collection of ongoing activities and processes that organizations use to systematically coordinate and align resources and actions with mission, vision, and strategy throughout an organization.

Strategic management activities transform the static plan into a system that provides performance feedback to decision making and enables the plan to evolve and grow as requirements and other circumstances change (Rollinson, n.d.). Being able to plan, manage, and lead different groups of individuals are skills that organizational management professionals need in order to complete their jobs efficiently.

We will pull back the curtain and show you how the curriculum within the Master of Arts in Organizational Management can help you plan, prepare, and lead an organization in today’s corporate environment. Let’s take a closer look at the degree program and explore some of the intricacies of organizational strategic management.

What is an Online Organizational Management Degree?

The curriculum for the Master of Arts in Organizational Management is designed to prepare you for various professions. Whether you want to start your own business, pursue careers with local, state, or federal government, or seek advancement within your current organization, the graduate coursework will equip you with the in-depth knowledge and skills needed to excel in multiple professional environments. Some of these organizational management skills that you can learn include planning, scheduling, time management, and coordinating resources. These skills that an organizational management degree provides can help students lead others while preparing them for management positions in a wide variety of fields. Some of these management positions can include:

Human Resources: Help to facilitate workforce aspects of a company such as training, recruitment, and employee compensation.

Sales: Join or supervise a team of sales associates in any size company.

Retail: Perform activities related to retail operations, which may include determining which products and merchandise get displayed, purchasing, as well as creating promotions, and adjusting product price levels.

Any of these areas of employment can be found in a variety of industries, from large corporate companies to smaller private businesses.

Whether you choose the standard program or a specialization, your Master of Arts in Organizational Management degree program consists of 11 courses. The first eight are core courses, followed by three courses that correspond to the specialization of your choice. Each specialization gives you the opportunity to enhance your degree program and delve deeper into other areas of management.

Take for example the three-course Organizational Leadership specialization. Utilizing courses such as BUS 691 Strategies in Organizational Leadership, this specialization will help you build on leadership, business, and management concepts and provide you with the opportunity to synthesize all prior learning in leadership and related experiences, both personal and professional.

Additionally, as you progress through your degree program, you’ll have the opportunity to take OMM 692 Organizational Management Strategy. This capstone course will enhance your understanding of the formulation, implementation, and maintenance of organizational strategic management.

There are quite a few parallels between the coursework at Global Campus and organizational strategic management. By utilizing the online curriculum, you’ll equip yourself with the knowledge needed for dealing with complex problems and develop the skills necessary for managing and executing organizational strategic management.
