Biography

Ted Ellis serves as the Program Chair for the UAGC Bachelor of Arts in Social and Criminal Justice program (BASCJ) and the Master of Science in Criminal Justice program (MSCJ). Ted holds a Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of Idaho, a Master of Science (MS) in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Analysis of Criminal Behavior from the University of Cincinnati, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in International Development with a major in Security Studies and a minor in Political Development from the University of Southern Mississippi. Ted is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Prior to teaching Ted worked as an attorney. Ted is currently a member of the Oregon State Bar (inactive status). He is also a member of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. Ted’s interests in research include theories and factors in justice, corrections, and correctional policies. He has multiple conference presentations and has served as a discussant for a conference panel. His most recent conference presentations focus on research in corrections with quantitative methods. 

Ted’s recent work in an appendix (by Ted Ellis, with contributions from Antoinette Vicks) published within an updated second edition corrections textbook, is a work that includes focus on federal and state policies, court cases, programs, and legislation relevant to corrections, with application features to engage learners with community interests. Ted is published as a contributor to a corrections textbook second edition and also published as a contributor to an updated second edition corrections textbook. Ted is currently working as a contributor to a forthcoming updated second edition juvenile justice textbook. He has served as a textbook reviewer and is listed in the acknowledgments for a third edition textbook on criminal psychology and a first edition textbook on corrections. Ted’s research paper presentation at the 2024 Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences Annual Meeting in Chicago, Illinois, included time series models for data in corrections.

Ted was appointed as a UAGC Faculty Fellow – Accessibility Design, for the academic year 2025-2026, and he is active in collaborative accessibility initiatives in online higher education. He served as a co-session facilitator for the 2024 and 2025 UAGC Culture of Care Summits and is a member of the planning team for the 2026 UAGC Culture of Care Summit. Ted is passionate about the UAGC mission statement, and teaching, and he strives to inspire learners in the UAGC BASCJ and MSCJ programs to form their approach to UAGC courses with questions and with evidence.
