Biography
Dr. Newton Miller has been committed to the education arena since 1995 when he converted non-traditionally from the ranks of the engineering field. His research interest lies in educating at-potential populations. Dr. Miller earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Education Administration from Capella University, a Master of Business Administration in Marketing from Ashford University, a Master or Education in Education Leadership from York college of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Cheyney University. He has worked as a Math and Science teach, and Assistant Principal, Principal, and helped to write the plans for and standup two charter school.
Dr. Miller currently serves as a Program Chair in the Division of Education Professions at the University of Arizona Global Campus. His contributions in the higher education arena have supported the mission of several universities as he is widely requested to conduct professional development sessions and keynote address across the country. Some of his contributions to the world of education have been lauded by honors like the Impact Award from the Urban League 2018; Provost Award for Outstanding Faculty, from Ashford University, 2014, and the Excellence in Teaching Award from York College, 2012. He is the author of “Why Some Seeds Don’t Grow” a book that sheds light on high impact principles needed to enhance the educating, mentoring, and parenting of urban youth. He co-authored “How Does Educator Look on Me?”, a textbook that helps aspiring educators determine whether the field of education is for them. “Life After College” is another textbook that Dr. Miller co-authored. It is designed to prepare graduates from education programs for transition into the workforce.
Fun Fact: Dr. Miller’s dream job was as a Structural Engineer until he stood in front of a classroom of knowledge-hungry, inner-city students. It was at that moment he knew his true purpose and career path was to be an educator.
