MGT 492 Strategic Management for the Multinational Enterprise Capstone

The final integrative course in the international business program integrates the basic business functions through strategic management principles. Comprehensive cases deal with global competition in complex changing environments within which the organization seeks to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage. Issues of strategy formulation and implementation are addressed. This course must be taken last in the program. 

EDU 381 Curriculum and Instructional Design

3 Credits

Curriculum and Instructional Design is a comprehensive course that delves into the intricate interplay between content standards, curriculum design, lesson planning, and instructional models, with a primary focus on enhancing student achievement and ensuring equitable access to mastery for all learners. This course provides educators, instructional designers, and curriculum developers with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complex relationship between content standards and effective instructional practices. Students will engage in practical lesson planning activities and collaborative discussions to apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios. By the end of the course, students will be equipped with the tools and insights needed to design and implement instruction that not only meets content standards but also fosters an equitable and inclusive learning environment, ultimately leading to increased student achievement for all.

MGT 490 Strategic Human Resources Planning

3 Credits

This course provides a link between the traditional human resources functions (recruiting, staffing, training, performance appraisals, labor relations, and compensation and benefits), strategic planning, and meeting long-range organizational goals and objectives. This course must be taken last in the program. 

MAT 540 Statistical Concepts for Research

3 Credits

This course demonstrates how to apply selected statistical techniques to a wide variety of problems and situations arising in the areas of business, economics, finance, management, social science, health, psychology, and education. Topics include graphical description of data; measures of location and dispersion; probability; discrete and continuous random variables; sampling distributions and estimation; confidence intervals and hypothesis tests; simple linear regression and correlation.

MGT 460 Leadership Priorities and Practice

3 Credits

Leadership Priorities and Practice is a capstone course that requires students to reflect on and synthesize the major insights gained in their study of business leadership. A substantive paper is developed to illustrate how these insights can be applied effectively in the students’ work environment. Students will demonstrate their knowledge integrating insights from each academic area in their synthesis and application of leadership principles and practices.MGT 460 is the capstone course for the BA in Business Leadership program and must be taken last in the sequence. This course is not available for non-degree seeking students.

BUS 318 Organizational Behavior

3 Credits

This course studies the factors influencing individual and group behavior, as well as their interactions with each other and management. It examines how organizations manage their internal environments to boost productivity, efficiency, and communication among members. The course emphasizes applying knowledge of organizational behavior to improve productivity and job satisfaction in the workplace.  Prerequisite: BUS 201 or MGT 330.

ELL 240 Linguistically and Culturally Diverse Learners

3 Credits

In this course, learners will explore current research theories and the use of community and virtual resources supporting English language learners and their families. In addition, students will analyze instructional strategies that support learners of diverse cultural backgrounds, academic needs, and proficiency levels, and design learning activities that foster social interaction, linguistic skills, and literacy development for English language learners.

MAT 232 Statistical Literacy

3 Credits

This course is designed to meet general education quantitative reasoning (mathematics) requirements. It will cover such topics as measures of center, dispersion, and position to interpret real-world situations. Students will construct graphs that summarize data and interpret results, as well as utilize properties of the normal curve to solve real-world problems. Students will set up hypothesis tests and apply them to real-world situations.

EDU 372 Educational Psychology

3 Credits

Educational Psychology explores the theories of how people learn. Selected learning theories are analyzed from the perspective of teaching and learning. Developmental theory and environmental and social factors are explored as they interface with the learning process. Educational psychology’s research is applied to the measurement, assessment, and evaluation of learning and the effectiveness and efficiency of teaching-learning interactions.

BUS 317 Introduction to Advertising

3 Credits

This course is designed to introduce students to the field of advertising as a promotional force with emphasis on institutions, planning, strategic practices, and tactical decisions made by advertising executives. It will also explore the various career opportunities including account executive, media buying, copywriting, production, and research.
