Biography
Dr. Shannon Harris joined the University of Arizona Global Campus in March 2023 as full-time faculty for the Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management program in the Division of Health and Behavioral Sciences. She completed her PhD in Health Services with a Health Administration focus from Walden University in May 2023. Her dissertation is titled: Organizational Factors of Emergency Room Fast-Track Admission Duplicate Data Entry Errors in an Alabama Health System. She holds a Master of Philosophy in Health Services from Walden University, a Master of Business Administration with a Healthcare Management focus from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Harris is RHIA credentialed and has over 16 years of experience in the HIM industry and 6 years of teaching experience in higher education. She is active in the national, state, and regional HIM associations and serves on the board for the Alabama Association of Health Information Management (AAHIM). She is a 2025 recipient of the AAHIM Distinguished Member Award which highlights her dedication and contributions to the HIM profession. Dr.Harris’s research interests include various topics from an industry and higher education perspective including patient identity management, blood clot impacts in HIM and HI, virtual reality, and other innovations to improve student learning outcomes in the online classroom. Dr. Harris resides with her family in Birmingham, AL.
