UAGC Showcases Innovation in Prior Learning Assessment at the 2023 CAEL Conference

[Chandler, AZ, November 20, 2023] – Last week, members of the Articulation and Prior Learning Assessment team at the University of Arizona Global Campus (UAGC) presented virtually at the 2023 Council on Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) Conference. The engaging session delved into internal collaborations with the CHAMPS and Honors Program teams, emphasizing the significance of identifying opportunities for Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) for students.

In a unique approach, UAGC, with its online format and 5-week undergraduate courses, explored the untapped potential of learning derived from extra-curricular activities over extended periods. The team's interactive roundtable session drew approximately 25 attendees, all keen on exploring innovative ideas to enhance their CPL programs.

Lai Zitoun, VP, University Registrar at UAGC, expressed the university's commitment to providing diverse avenues for students to receive credit for their prior learning. Zitoun stated, "At UAGC, we believe in recognizing and valuing the wealth of knowledge that students bring with them. Our partnerships with internal teams, such as CHAMPS and the Honors Program, exemplify our dedication to creating a dynamic and inclusive learning environment."

Alexa Dunne, Associate Director, Articulation and Prior Learning Assessment at UAGC, shared insights into the collaborative efforts that make UAGC Credit for Prior Learning programs stand out. "Our team is continually exploring creative ways to assess and award credit for learning that arises from the rich experiences students bring to the table. The CAEL Conference provided a platform to share our successes and learn from other institutions striving for excellence in CPL programs."

Sabrina Johnson, Articulation and Prior Learning Specialist and Michael Testone, Senior Articulation and Prior Learning Specialist,  were key contributors to the roundtable discussion, bringing their expertise to the forefront. Their participation highlighted the commitment of UAGC to fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration in the realm of adult and experiential learning.

As UAGC continues to pioneer advancements in higher education, the university remains dedicated to providing accessible and flexible opportunities for students to leverage their prior learning experiences toward their academic journey.
