NUR 306 Nursing Research

3 Credits

This course focuses on the role of the baccalaureate-prepared nurse in the translation and dissemination of current evidence into professional nursing practice. Research methods and findings are appraised and applied within the framework of evidence-based practice. Advocacy for the protection of human subjects in clinical research is emphasized. Prerequisite: NUR 300. This course may not be taken outside of this program and is not available for Non Degree Seeking students. 

NUR 304 Health Assessment

3 Credits

This course builds on knowledge of physical assessment for the RN-BSN learner. This course uses a systematic approach to patient history-taking, physical exam and documentation of findings for individuals across the life span. Each week students participate in a virtual simulation lab exercise. Prerequisite: NUR 302. This course may not be taken outside of this program and is not available for Non Degree Seeking students. 

NUR 302 Transcultural Nursing Care

3 Credits

Transcultural Nursing explores cultural beliefs and practices as they apply to a population’s health and the development of illnesses, as well as similarities and differences among cultural groups. Course materials and resources allow students to explore appropriate communication, cultural needs within the nursing scope of practice, and patient-centered care based on cultural values and preferences. Students will also identify disparities in health and health care among cultural groups. Prerequisite: NUR 300. This course may not be taken outside of this program and is not available for Non Degree Seeking students. 

NUR 300 Professional Role Development & Practice in Nursing

3 Credits

This course creates a foundation for the registered nurse transitioning to baccalaureate nursing practice. Course content includes baccalaureate nursing core competencies, standards of professional nursing practice, the theoretical basis of practice, ethical and legal components of practice, interprofessional communication and collaboration, accountability, autonomy, and decision making in the delivery of safe, effective, and quality driven nursing practice to improve patient health outcomes. Prerequisites: ENG 328. This course may not be taken outside of this program and is not available for Non Degree Seeking students.

INF 690 ISS Seminar

3 Credits

This course emphasizes the use of information technology to develop distinct competitive advantage in relations with competitors, customers, and suppliers, and with respect to products and services. Course participants examine strategies of actual companies and identify other strategies that can be deployed to gain competitive advantage in diverse settings. In addition, the course is cumulative in nature, integrating knowledge and information attained while completing the entire MBA curriculum. The course project requires generation and presentation of an organizational information systems strategic plan.  

SOC 301 Identity & Social Inequality

3 Credits

The course considers issues of identity, social inequality, and discrimination in society. The focus is on identities such as race and ethnicity, sex and gender, social class, culture, age, and ability, as well as the intersection between them. The focus is on these social categories as both elements of personal identity and sources of social inequality.

SOC 205 Social Theory

3 Credits

Social theory presents opportunities to rethink and reform cultural, social, and political societal assumptions with the goal of promoting liberation for all people and exposing oppression in its many forms. Key critically minded contributors to social theory include economists, philosophers, psychologists, historians, activists, dramatists, essayists, poets, and novelists. Social theory, from a critical perspective, is accessible to everyone and seeks ways to understand social life and is crucial for helping people make sense of their daily lives and is essential to understanding new research, social practices, and institutions. With the long-term aim of helping us better understand our lives and world, students will study what theorists have to say about the social world. The course covers key areas such as Queer Theory, Crip Theory, Feminist Theory, Critical Race Theory, Intersectionality, and other areas of inquiry that seek to engage a multidisciplinary perspective with the goal of advancing emancipatory knowledge.

INF 340 Business Systems Analysis

3 Credits

This course studies the problems and needs of organizations and how business functions, staff, data, business processes, and technology can be used to achieve organizational goals and objectives. The focus is on assessment for improvement of the business and its functions. Prerequisite: Fulfillment of the Digital Literacy Competency

ENG 497 English Capstone

3 Credits

Students will demonstrate mastery of the concepts and methodology in the major by producing a final project that includes extensive research into the selected topic. Prerequisite: Successful completion of the General Education Capstone course. Prerequisite: Successful completion of the General Education Capstone course.

INF 620 Management of Information Systems

3 Credits

This course provides a management-focused perspective of modern business information systems by introducing the application of AI and cybersecurity protocol. The topics addressed in the course consist of the fundamentals of computer systems including hardware / software, programming languages, software development methodologies, basics of networking, and cybersecurity. The course introduces information systems solutions for business problems by automating business processes, conducting risk assessment and cybersecurity threat detection.
