ELL 240 Linguistically & Culturally Diverse Learners

3 Credits

In this course, learners will explore current research theories and the use of community and virtual resources supporting English language learners and their families. In addition, students will analyze instructional strategies that support learners of diverse cultural backgrounds, academic needs, and proficiency levels, and design learning activities that foster social interaction, linguistic skills, and literacy development for English language learners.

ECE 351 Play & Learning for the Young Child

3 Credits

In this course students explore the significant role and impact of play on the development of children. Students will actively participate in discussions and activities related to major theorists, current research on play, the developmental stages of play, cultural influences, and current trends and topic related to play. 

MAT 232 Statistical Literacy

3 Credits

This course is designed to meet general education quantitative reasoning (mathematics) requirements. It will cover such topics as measures of center, dispersion, and position to interpret real-world situations. Students will construct graphs that summarize data and interpret results, as well as utilize properties of the normal curve to solve real-world problems. Students will set up hypothesis tests and apply them to real-world situations.

EDU 372 Educational Psychology

3 Credits

Educational Psychology explores the theories of how people learn. Selected learning theories are analyzed from the perspective of teaching and learning. Developmental theory and environmental and social factors are explored as they interface with the learning process. Educational psychology’s research is applied to the measurement, assessment, and evaluation of learning and the effectiveness and efficiency of teaching-learning interactions.

BUS 317 Introduction to Advertising

3 Credits

This course is designed to introduce students to the field of advertising as a promotional force with emphasis on institutions, planning, strategic practices, and tactical decisions made by advertising executives. It will also explore the various career opportunities including account executive, media buying, copywriting, production, and research.

MGT 450 Strategic Planning for Organizations

3 Credits

Strategic Planning for Organizations is the capstone course for the BA in Organizational Management program. The course stresses the dynamics of strategic planning and strategic management. Students will integrate their knowledge and apply skills gained through their studies to explore various management planning models and techniques and apply the concepts to actual business cases. Prerequisite: MGT 330. MGT 450 is the capstone course for the BA in Organizational Management program and must be taken last in the sequence. This course is not available for non-degree seeking students and cannot be taken as an elective course in other programs.

MAT 222 Intermediate Algebra

3 Credits

In this course, students will explore a wide range of Algebra topics. Topics will include study of linear equations, linear relationships, slope, polynomials, and functions, including graphing relations and solving systems of equations. Emphasis will be placed on developing an awareness of historical and current uses of algebra in real life settings, in various careers, and in solving important societal problems.

EDU 371 Phonics-Based Reading & Decoding

3 Credits

This course provides an overview of research-based concepts and instructional practices for teaching children how to read following the Science of Reading. In addition, the course will review assessments for evaluating the performance of developing readers, including phonemic awareness, letter-sound identification, word reading, and fluency. This course will also cover early literacy principles and the stages and components of early literacy development. Finally, the course will help students draw connections between oral language, phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, phonics, and fluent reading. Prerequisite: EDU 372.

EDU 367 Elementary & Secondary School Media

3 Credits

This class will explore the role of the teacher librarian and role of the library media center at three different levels of education (elementary, middle, and high school). Students will research programs, library practices, teaching styles and management in the facilitation of a library media center.

BUS 311 Business Law I

3 Credits

Introduction to the legal environment of business in the United States. Examination of the Constitution, administrative law, contracts, agency, and the protection of competition, consumers, employees, investors, the environment, and international trade.
