HSM 497 Homeland Security & Emergency Management Capstone

3 Credits

In this final course students will demonstrate their mastery of program outcomes in Homeland Security & Emergency Management creating an original research and analysis report using the draft and research developed in the Research and Analysis Course. Prerequisite: Successful completion of the General Education Capstone course.

HSM 438 Introduction to Cyber Crime

3 Credits

This course focuses on the technical aspects of digital crime as well as behavioral aspects of computer hackers, virus writers, terrorists and other offenders. Using real life examples and case studies, students will examine the history, development, extent and types of digital crime and digital terrorism as well as current legislation and law enforcement practices designed to prevent, investigate and prosecute these crimes.

MGT 425 Leadership & Motivation

3 Credits

Leadership plays a crucial role in motivating employees to perform at their best and achieve their goals. Effective leaders understand the needs, desires, and strengths of their employees and create a work environment that fosters and sustains motivation for the purposes of increased engagement and productivity. This course examines how leaders can motivate employees in various ways while creating a positive work culture. The concepts of creating a compelling vision, demonstrating passion, and leading by example are explored through motivational contexts and processes. Prerequisite: BUS 119 for the BA Business Leadership Program.

EDU 362 Adult Learning & Instruction

3 Credits

Students will learn about the various theories and practices associated with adult learning, how learning may be designed and implemented for adult learners, as well as how learning as an adult differs from younger learners. Various modalities for instruction will be examined including e-learning, accelerated courses, and training sessions.

ECE 335 Children’s Literature

Credits

In this course, students will evaluate the essential components of quality literature and media in early childhood education and the role of children’s literature in culturally diverse environments. Learners will also examine strategies for utilizing literature with young children and their families, develop the skills to propose developmentally appropriate strategies in the use and delivery of literature and media in early childhood education, and design and implement developmentally appropriate activities that promote critical thinking, creativity, and imagination through the exploration of children's literature.

ECE 332 Child Development

3 Credits

This course describes the stages of developmental growth from conception to early childhood. Students will evaluate theory and research that explains the development of young children. Students will describe how biological, environmental, protective, and adverse factors impact children’s development and learning. They will also analyze developmentally appropriate practices supporting growth and development in physical, cognitive, social and emotional, and linguistic domains. Finally, students will analyze how development and learning intersect across developmental domains.

BUS 307 Operations Management & Quantitative Techniques

3 Credits

A survey of relevant quantitative techniques commonly used in accounting, business, and information systems. Topics will vary but, typically, elementary probability theory and applications, decision theory, and linear programming are included. Prerequisite: Fulfillment of Quantitative Reasoning Core Competency.

HSM 433 Counter Terrorism & Intelligence Analysis

3 Credits

Students in this course study and analyze counterterrorism including the evolution of counterterrorism, and the specifics of the typology and anatomy of terrorist operations. The course includes an overview of the intelligence community, collection, analysis, requirements and dissemination.

MGT 380 Leadership for Organizations

3 Credits

Several leadership styles are examined in this course. Emphasis is placed on developing effective leadership in organizations and personal enterprises, and on developing ethical leadership perspectives in personal and professional decision-making. Prerequisite: BUS 119 for the BA Business Leadership and BA Organizational Management programs.

ECE 315 Language Development in Young Children

3 Credits

This course offers an examination of language development in children from birth to age eight, emphasizing the integration of research-based strategies to support early language and literacy skills. Special focus is placed on creating developmentally appropriate, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environments that nurture both typical and atypical language learners. Students will explore methods for supporting dual language learners and collaborate with diverse families to promote strong language foundations.
