How to find a government job:
First, visit gogovernment.org and spend time researching the types of professionals most needed to work at government agencies right now.
Then go to USA Jobs, the federal government’s official job site. Even if you don’t find the specific job title you’re pursuing, you should at least create your personal profile, so that hiring managers can find you.
Consider a federal internship. One potential route might be the Pathways Internship Program, through the Veterans Administration. There is also a program for graduate students called the Presidential Management Fellows Program.
If you have served in the armed forces, you should know that there are laws that require preferential treatment to veterans (including the disabled) in federal hiring practices if certain requirements are met. While this is not a guarantee of employment or retention, it could be advantageous to you if you’re a veteran of the US Armed Forces. Visit the website of the US Department of Labor to learn more about Veterans’ Preference.
