Biography

Dr. Gustavus started her career in healthcare as a Medic in the United States Air Force in 1997. She completed her Doctor of Health Science in Global Health at A.T. Still University. Her doctoral dissertation research study focused on the relationship between educational delivery (online versus ground-based) and national certification pass rates of Health Information Management accredited programs. She completed her clinical management degree at Texas Tech University, Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management from Texas State University, and a degree in Biology from Blinn College. She is a Registered Health Information Administrator and a Clinical Coding Associate. Dr. Gustavus’ professional experience includes Hospital Operations Manager, Clinical Administrator of Behavioral Health and Neurology and Texas A&M University. She has served as Department Chair of Health Informatics and Health Information Technology programs for the past 8 years. Dr. Gustavus participates on the Graduate Resource Committee for CAHIIM, building the curriculum for Health informatics graduate programs and is on the AHIMA certification committee as a reviewer of certification exams. She was recently appointed to the Comprehensive Research in Translational Science Journal editorial board.
